Elaine Cates, 60, of Indianapolis, passed away May 21, 2017. She was born September 2, 1956 in Indianapolis. She was a graduate of Harry E. Wood High School. Elaine served as the Senior Program Coordinator at Southeast Community Services until her retirement. She was a beloved member of her Fountain Square Community, where she was often referred to as the Mayor of Fountain Square. She was a passionate leader for many volunteer events in her Fountain Square Community. Elaine had a big personality and an even bigger heart; because of these attributes she had never met a stranger. Elaine had a contagious smile and laugh that brought others countless amounts of joy.

Elaine is survived by her sister, Nancy Gourley; her brother, Roger Cates; her nieces, Lynn Cates and Danielle & (Brian) Watts; her nephew, Cody Gourley; her great-great niece, Jalyn Morgan; her great-great nephew, Ryker Owen, and countless friends who turned into family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Lallie Mae Cates.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 1:00PM - 8:00PM at Wilson St. Pierre, in Indianapolis, IN. She will then be transported to Westmoreland, TN where the funeral service will be conducted at Woodard Funeral Home at 1PM on Saturday, May 27th. The family will receive visitors on Sat. May 27th from 10AM-service time at 1PM. Elaine will be laid to rest near her parents at Siloam Cemetery in Westmoreland, TN.
