Frances Carter Cates

Ms. Frances Carter Cates, age 85, of Westmoreland passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday August 15, 2015.

Funeral Services for Ms. Cates will be conducted on Tuesday, August 18 at 2p.m. from the chapel of Woodard Funeral Home with Bro. Leon Graves officiating. Internment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.The family will begin accepting visitors on Monday, August 17 from 1p.m. to 9 p.m. at Woodard Funeral Home.

She was born in Westmoreland and spent her entire life here. Frances was employed with Westmoreland Manufacturing until it closed and then went on to work at Fleetwood Homes as an escort service for mobile homes.

She was the daughter of the late Lewis Taylor Hawkins and Esther Creasy Hawkins Spears. She was also preceded in death by her brother - Franklin Hawkins; sister - Evelyn Sloan; and two ex- husbands - Garlin Carter and Leon Cates.

She is survived by daughter - Phyllis & (Claude) Bradley of Westmoreland; Son - Keith Carter of Westmoreland; two grandchildren -Jennifer Bradley of Fairview, Tn. and Josh & (Ashley) Carter of Lafayette; and three great-grandchildren- Lauren Scruggs, Ian Scruggs, and Abigail Carter.

She was always helping with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren and always willing to help a friend or nieghbor. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends and loved ones.
