James Wayne Anderson, Jr.

April 6, 1928 — May 12, 2017

James Wayne Anderson, Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2017. James was born on April 6, 1928 in Fleet, Kentucky, the son of James Wayne Anderson, Sr., and Arva E. Meador Anderson. James graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1947 and served his country proudly and honorably in the United States Army in the Korean War. He was a platoon sergeant and member of the famed “Indian Head” 2nd Infantry Division (Second to None).

After returning home to Westmoreland, James completed his education and began his 40 plus year career as a teacher, basketball coach, and principal at Westmoreland High School. James was a highly respected role model for his family as well as countless students and teachers at Westmoreland High School. James is survived by wife of over 63 years, Doris Piper Anderson, children Jimmy Anderson (Cindy) of Gallatin, TN, Susie Sloan (Joey) of Westmoreland, TN, Kevin Anderson (Michelle) of Westmoreland, TN, and Jason Anderson (Deana) of Owensboro, KY. Grandchildren include Kassy Kowalski (Teddy), Kaleb Anderson, Karson Anderson, Mitchell Anderson, Sloan Anderson, Michael Miles, Maryann Douglas (Greg),and his great-grandchildren Madelyn Douglas, Eli Douglas, Asa Douglas, McKinnley Miles, and soon to arrive Trey Kowalski. James is preceded in death by his parents, James Wayne Anderson, Sr. and Arva Anderson, and sister, Leonora.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 14 from 2-7 p.m. and Monday, May 15 from 9-11:30 a.m. at Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland, TN. The Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Westmoreland United Methodist Church in Westmoreland with interment at Mt. Olive Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Reverend Doyle Farris. Active pallbearers will be James’ sons and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene W. Brown, David Brown, Joe Murray Brown, Jerry Kirby, Wayne Bright, and surviving members of his 1958 undefeated Westmoreland High School boys’ basketball team.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Westmoreland Methodist Church building fund and/or the Mount Olive Cemetery Fund. These can be made in the office of Woodard Funeral Home or mailed to P.O. Box 1000, Westmoreland, TN 37186.
